Black women comprise about 7% of the total U.S. population and have considerable influence as consumers across industries. THEJEMBE surveyed over 1,000 Black women to dig deeper into their perceptions on various issues affecting their lives—professional development, education, finances, and the rеѕіlіеnсе needed to navigate these challenges, as well as the attitudes that influence their purchase decisions.
Executive Summary: Spending an estimated $6B on beauty products in 2023, Black women are a crucial and growing beauty market segment. Our new report, The State of Black Women, investigates Black women consumers’ attitudes about brands across industries to learn more about what drives their purchase decisions and highlights their rеѕіlіеnсе. Our survey found that 32% of respondents stated they are satisfied with the range of beauty products available to Black women.
Key Findings:
- 26% of respondents stated celebrity endorsements and influencers are extremely influential when making beauty product purchase decisions.
- 22% of respondents stated that discrimination is the biggest challenge that Black women face in the political landscape.
- 52% believe that society’s perception of Black women has evolved positively in recent years.
- When it comes to the keys to living a successful life, 41% of respondents stated that cultural and social empowerment is very important.
- 17% of respondents stated that they are satisfied with the current healthcare system’s treatment of Black women’s health issues.
- 43% stated that price is the factor that most influences their automobile purchase decisions.
